Summer is nearly here and it’s time for the return of WFG’s Summer Teen Filmmaking Camp! This is the place to be for the young aspiring filmmakers of the future! No experience required!
Ages: 13-17
*Note: This in-person workshop is limited to 10 participants. Spots to register are sold on a first come, first served basis.
Do you want to create your own film? During this two week summer camp students will develop their artistic voices and complete their own film. Students will learn a variety of skills including screenwriting, directing actors/acting, editing, camera operation, sound recording and more. Students will gain access to professional quality digital cameras and work in a large studio space. Editing software and computer access will be provided. At the end of the course there will be a film screening to celebrate the finished work.
This camp will take place at the Winnipeg Film Group, on the 3rd floor of 100 Arthur Street (Artspace Building). The class begins on Wednesday, July 30th. It will run weekdays, from 11:00am – 5:00pm. There is no class on the weekends, or on August 4th (holiday). The final class date is Wednesday, August 13th, where the final film projects will be shown.

Day 1: Wednesday, July 30, 11- 5pm – Meet & Greet/Shoot a Test Scene
Day 2: Thursday, July 31, 11- 5pm – Edit our Test Scene and Start to Write a Screenplay
Day 3: Friday, Aug 1, 11- 5pm – Finish Screenplay and Start Rehearsing
MONDAY AUG 4 – NO CLASS – HOLIDAY
Day 4: Tuesday, Aug. 5, 11- 5pm – Pre-Production
Day 5: Wednesday, Aug. 6, 11- 5pm – Shooting Day
Day 6: Thursday, Aug. 7, 11- 5pm – Shooting Day
Day 7: Friday, Aug. 8, 11- 5pm – Shooting Day
Day 8: Monday, Aug, 11th, 11- 5pm – Editing
Day 9: Tuesday, Aug 12th 11am – 5pm – Editing
Day 10: Wednesday, Aug 13th 11- 5pm - Finish Editing and Watch Finished Films
Some of the skills you will take away from this camp are:
- Basic screenwriting
- Genre theory
- How to prep the shooting according to templates
- How to manage and use basic film equipment
- Basic directing techniques and how to work with actors
- Editing in Adobe premiere pro
- Basic color correction and motion graphics (titles)
About the Instructor
Lasha Mowchun is a working filmmaker and film educator who lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lasha has toured Manitoba teaching film and animation to students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. As a filmmaker her surreal style of storytelling plays with social norms, gender and the commodification of the female body. Her work layers multiple conflicting narratives to bend the reality of each fictional world.
