Saint-Boniface, le quartier francophone de Winnipeg où tout le monde se connait, les rumeurs circulent librement, les jeunes ne trouvent pas leur place et le français se mélange à l’anglais. Natasha et Charlotte ont de grands rêves. C’est décidé. Demain, elles quitteront leur petite commununauté francophone de l’Ouest canadien pour la grande métropole de Montréal. C’est une séparation qui est difficile à vivre pour Alexis, leur meilleur ami. Ce soir, le trio fait la fête une dernière fois dans leur quartier. FM Youth présente un franc regard sur la jeunesse francophone de l’Ouest canadien.

About the Film (English)
Saint-Boniface, the French Quarter of Winnipeg, where everyone knows each other, the rumour mills work overtime, young people can’t figure out where they belong and French mixes with English. Natasha and Charlotte have big dreams. They’ve already decided. Tomorrow, they’re leaving their little Western Canadian francophone community for the great metropolis of Montreal. It’s a tough pill to swallow for their best friend Alexis. Tonight, the trio parties one last time in their neighbourhood. FM Youth is a look at being young and French in Western Canada.
FM Youth was nominated for a Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois award (Best French-Canadian Film (outside of Québec) – 2015), a Windy Award (Stéphane Oystryk – Director: First Feature Length Film – 2016), a Western Canadian Music Award (Graham Epp – Visual Media Composer of the Year – 2016) and a Manitoba Book Award (Rue-Deschambault Literary Prize for best francophone fiction – 2016) for the published version of the script from Éditions du Blé.
About the Filmmaker (French)
Stéphane Oystryk est un cinéaste de Winnipeg, Manitoba, qui a étudié le cinéma à l’Université du Manitoba. FM Youth, son premier long métrage, a eu sa première en octobre 2014. Il a aussi réalisé plusieurs courts métrages ainsi que des capsules pour la télévision. Son sujet principal c’est le quartier français de Winnipeg, Saint-Boniface, et la communauté francophone du Manitoba.
About the Filmmaker (English)
Stéphane Oystryk is a filmmaker from Winnipeg, Manitoba, who studied film at the University of Manitoba. FM Youth, his first feature film, was released in October of 2014. He has also directed several short films and television segments. His main subject is Winnipeg’s French Quarter, St. Boniface, and Manitoba’s francophone community.
