Basic Filmmaking Workshop with Amanda Kindzierski

The Basic Filmmaking Workshop is a series of workshops held over a 2 month period during evenings and some weekends, and provides an intensive introduction to independent filmmaking. All steps and processes are covered from creative conception to the final cut – including the basics of screenwriting, directing, camera operation, lighting, sound and film editing. During the course, the participants will be exposed to the process of shooting and editing a short film and short video.

*Note: This in-person workshop is limited to 10 participants. While masks are no longer required to be worn in indoor public spaces in Manitoba, individuals are recommended to wear a mask in our Production Centre.

About the Instructor

Amanda Kindzierski, a Saulteaux Ojibwe, Métis, Polish, and Ukrainian filmmaker who identifies as Two-Spirited, is a dynamic force in the world of film and education. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Amanda serves as the Executive Director of the Winnipeg Indigenous Filmmakers Collective (WIFC), where she has been instrumental in shaping its evolution and success. A graduate of The Academy of Broadcasting and The National Screen Institute’s New Voices and Indigidocs programs, Amanda brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her work.

Her extensive experience includes writing, producing, directing, and editing over 30 short films, many of which have been showcased at local, regional, and international film festivals. Known for her commitment to nurturing new talent, Amanda teaches filmmaking across various age groups in schools and community organizations. Her unique perspective as an Indigenous storyteller and an out lesbian deeply informs her creative work and educational approach.

The Winnipeg Film Group reserves the right to cancel any course where the minimum registration has not been met. Anyone registered for a course that has been cancelled is eligible for a full refund, Cancelled course fees may also be used towards any other Winnipeg Film Group training programs.
