Cameraless Analog Filmmaking Techniques with Heidi Phillips

Come try out cameraless filmmaking techniques with Heidi Phillips.  

Experiment with contact printing to copy and alter found footage or your own negatives. We will learn how to make Lumens by putting footage and objects directly on the film then flashing it in the darkroom and hand processing the results. We will experiment with a small home 16mm contact printer that can handle longer portions of film to be transferred. The class will then go into the darkroom to process their prints and create projectable copies of their work. The results will have a distinct visual style that changes the look from the original footage.

Phytograms are a process where we soak plants with vitamin c and washing soda creating an organic developer for the creation of images on 16mm emulsion. The chlorophyll in the plants reacts when placed on the film and baked under the sun or UV light. Beautiful definitions of the plant's surface and inner structure appear over time.
